FAIMER Institute
Description
The FAIMER Institute is a two-year fellowship program designed for international health professions educators who have the potential to play a key role in improving health professions education at their schools. The program is designed to teach education methods and leadership skills, as well as to develop strong professional bonds with other health professions educators around the world.
Each year, 16 international health professions educators are selected as FAIMER Institute Fellows. The fellowship program includes two residential sessions (Sessions 1 and 3) that take place in Philadelphia one year apart, as well as two 11-month distance learning sessions (Sessions 2 and 4), one following the first residential session and one following the second residential session. During the distance learning sessions, Fellows participate in the Mentoring and Learning Web (ML-Web), a series of web-based discussions with other Fellows and Institute faculty. During Session 2, each first-year Fellow is assisted in completing his or her education innovation project through a co-mentoring relationship with a second-year Fellow. During Session 4, in addition to mentoring first-year Fellows, second-year Fellows work with Institute faculty to develop educational scholarship and deepen their knowledge base in health professions education and research.
