Professor Olapade-Olaopa is the immediate past President of the Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA) and a former (11th) Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. A visionary educator, Professor Olapade-Olaopa is a urologist with expertise in oncology and molecular biology and health systems research and development, as well as medical education. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters and served on a number of international educational committees. Among his many accomplishments, he directed development of the University of Ibadan’s 2010 undergraduate competency-based medical and dental curricula, described as the first curriculum of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa and later adopted as a template for medical and dental curricula in Nigeria. Professor Olapade-Olaopa continues to champion competency-based health professions education implementation globally, most recently hosting a FAIMER Assessment Institute pilot at this year’s AMSA conference.
“As a FAIMER Fellow, I gained insights, relationships, and perspectives that have remained deeply relevant throughout my career,” said Professor Olapade-Olaopa. “The fellowship helped reinforce my commitment to advancing medical education in ways that are locally grounded and globally connected.”
We are proud to celebrate Professor Olapade-Olaopa’s achievement and look forward to his continued leadership and impact on health professions education worldwide.
