On Wednesday, October 23, 2013, FAIMER hosted its annual International Medical Education Day (IME Day) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The four-hour workshop, titled Appreciative Inquiry: Leading Positive Change in Health Care, was led by keynote speaker, author, and global social entrepreneur Dr. Diana Whitney. Dr. Whitney presented an overview of the principles and practices of Appreciative Inquiry, and then guided participants through a series of small group activities that helped broaden understanding as to how it can be used to create positive change in educational and health care settings.
Attendees included 31 Fellows from the 2012 and 2013 FAIMER Institute classes; FAIMER Board members, faculty, and staff; and other invited guests. For the first time, Fellows and alumni from around the world were also invited to take part in IME Day virtually. Small groups of virtual participants from 22 sites in 11 countries logged in to the live streamed session, and moderators helped to ensure that input from remote participants was incorporated into group discussions.
