Regina was Associate Professor of Genetics and Molecular Biology at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, where she had served as Pro-Rector and as Vice-Rector. A prominent figure in health professions education in Brazil, Regina Lugarinho was in recent years Executive Director of both the Brazilian Association for Medical Education (ABEM) and the National Forum of Health Professions Education (FNEPAS).
