Intealth congratulates Professor Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa on his election as the next President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Professor Olapade-Olaopa, a member of the 2002 class of the FAIMER Institute in Philadelphia, now known as the International FAIMER Institute (IFI), was confirmed in the role during WFME\u2019s annual in-person Executive Council Meeting held in Lagos, Nigeria, March 24 to 25, 2026. He will formally assume the presidency on January 1, 2027, succeeding current WFME President, Professor Ricardo Le\u00f3n B\u00f3rquez, at the conclusion of his four-year term.<\/p>\n

Professor Olapade-Olaopa is the immediate past President of the Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA) and a former (11th<\/sup>) Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. A visionary educator, Professor Olapade-Olaopa is a urologist with expertise in oncology and molecular biology and health systems research and development, as well as medical education. He has authored numerous articles and book chapters and served on a number of international educational committees. Among his many accomplishments, he directed development of the University of Ibadan\u2019s 2010 undergraduate competency-based medical and dental curricula, described as the first curriculum of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa and later adopted as a template for medical and dental curricula in Nigeria. Professor Olapade-Olaopa continues to champion competency-based health professions education implementation globally, most recently hosting a FAIMER Assessment Institute pilot at this year\u2019s AMSA conference.<\/p>\n
