The theme of this year\u2019s forum is\u00a0<em>Maternal Child Health and the Relation to Family Planning<\/em>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/4fc0e25243c463cf66858a512be5123a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Registration<\/a>\u00a0is now open for virtual participation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview<br \/>\n<\/strong>Planning family size is a complex issue connected to many other social factors including health and economic well-being. Cultural, community, policy, and capacity building issues as they relate to population growth will be discussed from a local and global perspective. Fellows and local participants will be joined by online participants from around the world. By the end of the forum, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cite global trends in maternal and infant mortality.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize the relationship of maternal child health to family planning and identify effective local efforts.<\/li>\n<li>Create plans for identifying local factors affecting effective family planning and develop strategies for addressing them.<\/li>\n<li>Identify issues affecting the balance of workforce cadres in family planning.<\/li>\n<li>Address cultural and political issues that impact family planning efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Keynote speakers:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark J. Hathaway, MD, MPH<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dr. Hathaway is Senior Technical Advisor for Reproductive Health at Jhpiego, and an obstetrician-gynecologist. He has served on several national-level work groups and committees, including the Institute of Medicine Standing Committee on Family Planning and the National Contraceptive Metrics Workgroup. He holds appointments at Johns Hopkins University as Adjunct Professor of OB\/GYN and at George Washington University as Associate Clinical Professor of Health Care Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Peter Johnson, PhD, CNM<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dr. Johnson is Senior Director, Nursing and Midwifery at Jhpiego and a nurse midwife. He recently served as Jhpiego\u2019s Director of Global Learning, developing strategic approaches to training and pre-service education, overseeing trainer development, instructional design and monitoring and evaluation of training efforts. As an expert nurse and midwife, Dr. Johnson leads Jhpiego\u2019s nurses and midwives in efforts to strengthen the global nursing and midwifery workforce. He received his PhD in Educational Psychology from University of Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Join Us!<br \/>\n<\/strong>Virtual participants\u2014either individuals or small groups\u2014will have access to the live streamed session, and moderators will incorporate virtual participants\u2019 input into plenary discussions. Having at least one other person participate with you will enhance the experience considerably, and small groups of four to six face-to-face participants are ideal. Virtual groups of global participants will also be formed.
