In a highly interactive session with in-room and online participants, FAIMER Fellows and invited guests will examine the connection between health and the built environment, with a focus on applying these ideas to local contexts.\u00a0By the end of the forum, participants will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define the built environment.<\/li>\n<li>Correlate place-based data regarding socio-economic factors with individual health status.<\/li>\n<li>Delineate characteristics of the built environment that positively correlate with health.<\/li>\n<li>Identify characteristics of a successful collaboration between experts in health and the built environment.<\/li>\n<li>Create opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and education to enhance health through enhancing the built environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Guest speakers will include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ana Diez Roux, MD, PhD, MPH<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dr. Diez Roux is Dean and Distinguished University Professor of Epidemiology in the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University. Originally trained as a pediatrician in her native Buenos Aires, she completed public health training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Diez Roux is internationally known for her research on the social determinants of population health and the study of how neighborhoods affect health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eugenia Victoria Ellis, PhD, AIA<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dr. Ellis directs Drexel University\u2019s dLUX light lab and is an Associate Professor with dual appointments in the College of Engineering and the Westphal College. At dLUX, experts from design, engineering, and the health professions investigate the links between natural and electric light sources and their effects on biological rhythms and health outcomes to create frameworks for the design of the built environment at the nexus of health, energy, and technology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nishant Manapure, MUD (participating virtually)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Nishant Manapure is Professor and Head of Institute at the Faculty of Architecture, Manipal University, Manipal, India. He has overseen projects related to architecture, interiors, urban design, and product design for private and government organizations; is currently working on research for water-sensitive urban design; and is on the faculty of the Manipal University-FAIMER International Institute for Leadership in Interprofessional Education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Harris M. Steinberg, FAIA<br \/>\n<\/strong>Harris Steinberg is the Executive Director of the Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation at Drexel University, and is also a distinguished professor of architecture in Drexel\u2019s Westphal College. He has been involved in a number of civic visioning projects including a plan to add 500 acres of new park space in Philadelphia, and The New Fairmount Park, a vision and action plan for Philadelphia\u2019s 2000-acre watershed park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Join Us!<br \/>\n<\/strong>Virtual participants\u2014either individuals or small groups\u2014will have access to the live streamed session, and moderators will incorporate virtual participants\u2019 input into plenary discussions. Group participation is encouraged! Having at least one other person participate with you will enhance the experience considerably, and small groups of four to six face-to-face participants are ideal.
