FAIMER®, a division of Intealth™, offers matched international medical graduates (IMGs) the opportunity to take a free learning module titled “Introduction to the U.S. Electronic Health Record (EHR).” The module is designed to provide IMGs with helpful information regarding the use of EHRs in the United States, in preparation for their first year U.S. residency positions.
Watch an overview video of the module.
In the module, learners are introduced to the fundamental features and capabilities of EHRs. They learn about unique features of EHRs in the United States as compared to other countries, such as legal considerations and clinical documentation. Finally, they have the opportunity to practice using an EHR simulation to care for sample patients. Completing the “Introduction to the U.S. Electronic Health Record (EHR)” learning module helps incoming IMGs become familiar with the look, layout, and common tasks of an EHR system, and prepares them for their institution’s specific EHR training. The module is optional and takes two to four hours to complete.
Since its public launch in 2024, more than 2,000 unique users have logged into the EHR module. In a survey of 2025 users, 87 percent of respondents agreed with the statement “I would recommend this learning module to other residents prior to beginning their residency.”
The module will be available to all IMGs who match to first-year residency positions for the 2026-2027 academic year and is offered at no cost to IMGs. Intealth provides program directors with instructions in advance of the module opening to share with matched IMGs. Incoming IMGs who are approved for our J-1 visa sponsorship will receive an email invitation to complete the learning module directly from Intealth after their visa sponsorship is approved. Program confirmation of matched status is required for non-J-1 IMGs. Non-J-1 IMGs may contact their training program for more information. Once the program confirms an IMG’s matched status, FAIMER will send the IMG an invitation to complete the learning module. We expect the module to open at the beginning of May 2026 and close at the end of June 2026.
