Independent Entity

The Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council (TMAC) was established in accordance with the Medical Accreditation Council Establishment Act drafted by the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) Accreditation Committee on August 25, 1999. It is primarily in charge of international liaison and contact. Its key responsibilities include:

  • To draft and propose ways to improve the accreditation procedure and criteria, conduct on-site evaluation, and compile reports of the visits;
  • To ensure that medical school graduates are capable of providing a certain level of basic medical care to patients;
  • To ensure that the level of medical education can keep up and continually improve with the change of time;
  • To maintain a close contact and cooperation with international medical accreditation agencies; and
  • To oversee all other matters related to medical accreditation.

* This accrediting agency is currently recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) Programme for Recognition of Accreditation Agencies. This recognition by WFME does not imply that all medical schools operating in this country are currently accredited by the agency. Please refer to the accrediting agency directly for information regarding the accreditation status of specific medical schools.
