Survey of Medical Schools
In December 2004, FAIMER began an ongoing survey of the world's medical schools. The purpose of the survey is to gather information about international medical schools, and, in particular, what methods are used for teaching and assessing medical students. The survey requested information on program offerings for medical graduates; the ways in which the curriculum is organized and opportunities for students in both required and elective experiences; ways in which instruction commonly occurs in preclinical and clinical coursework; and evaluation methods used in international medical schools.

Survey of Ministries of Health/Education
As part of the efforts to validate the information gathered concerning international medical schools, FAIMER is in the process of surveying 213 agencies, including Ministries of Health, Education, or Medical Councils, in 171 countries. In addition to collecting information used to validate the Ministry's recognition of international medical schools, respondents are asked to report on admission requirements, accreditation, and medical licensure. The results of this survey will be used to further refine and design instruments for the collection of data on international accreditation bodies, including standards used to approve medical programs and criteria employed to certify and license physicians.
