Dr. Vijay Rajput, M.B.B.S., F.A.C.P., S.F.H.M.

Dr. Vijay Rajput, M.B.B.S., F.A.C.P., S.F.H.M.Dr. Vijay Rajput is Associate Professor of Medicine and Assistant Dean for Curriculum at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. He also serves as Program Director of the Internal Medicine residency program at Cooper University Hospital, University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Rajput is an Associate Fellow at the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of and has served on several committees for the American College for Physicians (ACP), the Association for Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM), and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). He has also served as a Senior Patient Note Rater for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) examination.

Dr. Rajput has authored or co-authored more than 60 papers, abstracts, and book chapters. Since 2010, he has served as a Guest Editor for the “Ethics” section of the Year Book of Critical Care Medicine. In collaboration with the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), he co-edited the book entitled The International Medical Graduate’s Guide to U.S. Medicine and Residency Training.

Over the last 13 years, Dr. Rajput has received more than 15 Excellence in Teaching awards from students and residents. He was recently awarded the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award, a highly prestigious honor now in its 10th year. He received the equally prestigious Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2006, and was inducted into UMDNJ’s Master Educators’ Guild in 2005. In 2004, Dr. Rajput received an Excellence in Teaching Award from SHM.

Dr. Rajput was a key founding member of the new Cooper Medical School of Rowan University’s curriculum and student affairs committees. He developed curriculum and serves as Course Director for innovative courses such as the Medical Home Chronic Care clerkship and Foundations of Medical Practice.

Dr. Rajput’s main areas of professional interest are bedside teaching, real-time evidence based medicine, professionalism, ethics and humanism in medicine, problem based learning (PBL), and curriculum development. He has developed a core ethics curriculum for SHM.
