Directory of Organizations that Recognize Medical Schools

The initial version of FAIMER's directory of organizations that recognize, authorize, or certify the world's medical schools and/or medical education programs is available on the FAIMER website. The organizations listed are those that are often responsible for the establishment of national standards for medical education and the recognition of medical schools in their countries.

The availability of high quality data on evaluation and accreditation is essential to improving medical education and, ultimately, world health. As development of the directory continues, it will support the evaluation and accreditation of medical schools worldwide. It is also intended to be a resource for those working in health services and medical education research, physician credentialing, and development of health care policy.

Country Organization
Argentina National Commission for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Universities
Australia Australian Medical Council (AMC)
Austria University of Vienna / Center for Evaluation
Belize Medical Schools Certification Committee
Bulgaria National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency
Canada Committee of Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) / The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) / Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
Above: FAIMER's Directory of Organizations that Recognize Medical Schools lists, by country, those organizations that are typically responsible for the establishment of national standards for medical education in their countries.
The Directory of Organizations that Recognize Medical Schools is a developing resource and does not include all organizations responsible for approving medical schools/programs. Recognition by an organization listed does not imply that a medical school will be listed in IMED. FAIMER is not an accrediting agency and has no relationship with the organizations listed.
